So so good! I went in with no expectations and came out with a book to recommend in 2024!
This book was so funny, especially the grandma. She was constantly making comments that I've had my own grandma or family members make that were kinda nuts, but so on brand. This was a good balance to the other parts and themes of the book.
The story was so beautiful too! I didn't expect things to get so serious, but it all felt very natural. And well written. There are themes of forgiveness and moving on, especially when involving family. There are secrets that people in Valentina's family have been keeping from her so experiencing her full scope of emotions from finding everything out to her eventual resolution was beautiful. Yang knows how to get to the meat of things while keeping it all relatable and bringing humor in when necessary.
Overall, an incredible new graphic novel to add to your 2024 tbr!
