Valentine's day is Valentina Tran's favorite holiday when she likes to spread love. However on one Valentine's day, this Vietnamese American girl discovers the truth behind what happened with her parents and ever since, she hates this holiday. She meets the spirit of Saint Valentine, who tells her that her family is cursed to be unlucky in love. Then she makes a pact that, in one year, if she doesn't find true love, she will give up her heart forever.

This is a healing journey of heartbroken people. Of finding true love, in which Valentine wants to change her fate. I found it lovely and the pieces of vulnerability make the story heartfelt and relatable. One magical aspect is the lion dancing culture in Lunar New Year tradition and I thought it was smartly used to enhance the emotional and cultural connection.

This is about first love, friendship and family. I personally appreciated the messiness in family's dynamics, genuinely portrayed in the story. LUNAR NEW YEAR LOVE STORY is a heartwarming YA graphic novel with beautiful message and evocative/stunning artwork. The ending wrapped up too nicely and I wanted an epilogue. A well-written graphic novel.
