Some graphic novels share stories in a way that simply astound me. Even with the absence of text, LeUyen Pham's illustrations capture convey so much of the story - Valentina's homelife and family dynamics, her love of Valentine's Day, her childhood and transition to high school (all this in less than 40 pages!). I've enjoyed Gene Luen Yang's previous work so I was excited to see this new book and the storyline certainly doesn't disappoint. This first look leaves us on a cliffhanger and I'm hoping I'll be a lucky winner of the raffle - I'm kicking myself that I didn't jump on this earlier to lock in a copy. I take solace in the fact that the book will be published in January so we can all get our copies soon!
