I was excited to read this book, and it didn’t disappoint. Locust Lane is a gripping, multi-POV and slow-burn mystery/drama that centers around the lengths parents will go for their children. It also highlights the power (or lack of) related to socioeconomic status. In a way, the story is like a closed-room thriller, in that it’s set on Locust Lane, a high-end neighborhood in the prestigious Boston suburb of Emerson. Yet the story leans toward a drama because each character and their child are fully developed and intriguing, weaving in backstory while moving the plot forward. Unlike some thrillers, the ending wasn’t rushed. Although the ending itself initially felt unsatisfying, it was thought-provoking and let me envision what would happen next based on my understanding of the characters and situation. Locust Lane is a well-crafted and creative murder mystery.
