Locust Lane by Stephen Amidon was a good mystery, but had the potential to be great. The story takes place in an affluent Massachusetts’s neighborhood. Four friends attend a party together, one ends the night murdered. The three teens are suspects in the murder despite having said that they left the party, with Eden Perry being very much alive. With wealth comes power, and the suspects’ parents go into protection mode, sacrificing the others for their own. The story is told from the perspective of the teens’ parents, but this reader wanted to hear from the teens themselves. I believe that it was the author’s point that the truth didn’t matter, it was saving their own child and reputation that did. Getting to the actual truth of the murder may have been beside the point. Also, it was difficult keeping track of the characters and which child was theirs. That being said, I liked the book. 3.5 stars.
