“Locust Lane”, a thriller by Stephen Amidon, exposes the secrets of wealthy suburbanites in the affluent neighborhood of Emerson, Massachusetts. When a young woman named Eden Perry is found dead, suspicion falls on the three teenagers she was partying with the night she died. The parents of the teens each have secrets and will do anything to protect their secrets and their children, to devastating consequences.

I thought this was a very well plotted story. The twists and turns in the story are believable and the characters are compelling. Given that they are almost all well off and privileged, none of the characters are particularly likable. The story is told from multiple points of view and while it is easy to follow, the action is rather slow. The teenage characters/suspects are particularly compelling and I did feel sympathy for two of them. The author cleverly sets up a few different suspects and I did not guess who the murder was until the final clue was revealed.

The conclusion of the story and how it plays out for the various characters is extremely realistic , to the point of being heartbreaking. All in all, this is a solid thriller with realistic characters and situations, played out against a backdrop of insulation and privilege.
