LOCUST LANE starts with Patrick hitting a dog in the middle of the night, but the dog decides to fight back while an unknown man watches without a word. A woman learns that her 20 year old daughter has been killed. From here, the story switches between the POVs of multiple parents of senior teens in the same neighborhood. Each story is revolving around the young woman who was found dead, a woman known to be a bit troubled, but also loved by many.
I found this to be a great mystery story that really kept me guessing. I had some theories by about halfway into the novel, but there were some answers and twists that I didn’t see coming until they were right on top of me. There were big themes of how wealth and privilege are put to use to protect those who have it and work against those who don’t. It also looks a lot at grief and loss and how that impacts those who have lost the one they love.
This is a thriller that hooked me in right away and kept me reading. I wound up finishing over the course of a day because I didn’t want to put it down!
