I'm impressed that Amidon was able to fit some humor in here. What a weird but welcome surprise because I was not expecting Alice's deviant personality at the beginning of a murder mystery.
Anyways, Amidon keeps his writing relatively short but direct and detailed when we get to know each character. I think this way, he captures the essence of all the personalities, and it gets the ball rolling, which is why I like his writing. I think a good example is when the detectives (?) interviewed Danielle because it was swift in a way that expressed the detectives' experience and Danielle's shock.
Since I anticipate everyone's baggage will make them claw at each other's throats, I'm low-key hoping Celia and Alice stick together and hoping their children aren't murderers... I like their friendship! I don't wanna see these women fight!
