Couldn’t get past the prologue

Prologue was a dealbreaker for me. In the prologue, we’re clearly supposed to have a good opinion if a guy who hits a dog with his car, tells himself it’s not his fault or responsibility to help the dog because dogs are supposed to be leashed and not roam free in this down, and then decides not to abandon the injured dog to fend for itself because of guilt. Sorry, but you don’t really get moral kudos in my book for not walking away when you seriously considered leaving a dog you hit with your car to fend for itself. I mean, if you hit a kid in the street with your car would you tell yourself it’s okay to leave them injured and alone and carry on your merry way because parents are supposed to keep their kids from running out into streets? I would hope not. Obviously if it’s someone else’s fault for losing track of or control of their dog or kid, then you get a free pass to leave the helpless and injured to fend for themselves. And if you choose to stay and help, you’re just a saint for going above and beyond. Couldn’t get past that, so I couldn’t make it past the prologue.
