Loved this lush fairytale with complex characters

Vanja is almost as good as storytelling as she is at being a thief. The beginning of this book starts slow but trust me that the slow build up is worth it in the end. I adored the setting as it reminded me a bit of “The Bear and the Nightingale.” I loved Vanja but Ragne stole my heart as I suspect she did for everyone else. For me the characters and lush world made this book more than the political machinations or solving the big problems.
There is a bit of romance between two couples with some sweet kisses and build up of seeing the romance play out. I enjoyed the humor and light hearted ness brought to this book which had some dark elements.
