Little Thieves is the second book I have read by Margaret Owen. The first was The Merciful Crow.

Vanja is one of my favorite characters. She is not a hero, even if there is a happy ending. She's a thief, a liar, and self-serving. She's had to become these things to survive the family she served and her station in life.

When a job goes wrong and Vanja is caught by a low god for stealing from a protected family, the low god curses her for her greed. By the next full moon she will turn into gems unless she makes up for what she has stolen. It turns out, in Vanja's case, that could be quite a lot...

Little Thieves involves a lot of cat-and-mouse. There were quite a few moments her antics had me laughing aloud, especially regarding the Junior Prefect. There is a bit of f/f romance in the case of her friends. There is a brief mention of m/m marriage regarding a minor character. Low gods, a shapeshifter, and and few other creatures enter the story as well.

Margaret Owen did not disappoint.
