Well, this was certainly a captivating beginning! This starts off with the perfect dark, wintery fairy tale vibes and you can tell that it's only going to get better from here. I adored how the opening scene was told as if it was the beginning of a well-known folktale. Gives me all those magical, whimsical vibes but with a strong undercurrent of malevolence. Loved it!
I also loved our introduction to Vanja. I've only read 17 pages and I already know I'm going to love this gremlin girl. She's smart, she's precise, and she knows how to get things done! She has so much depth and character in such a few short pages and I find that incredible. It definitely makes me want to read more because I need to know how she got to where she is and how she gets caught.
A book that can have me completely on-board this quickly is a book I *have* to read. Also, that cover is just *chef's kiss* I can't wait to devour the rest of this story!
