Wow! Only a few pages in and I cannot seem to get enough. The story of Vanja, a woman of many names and faces, and her rise from rags to riches. The thirteenth daughter of a thirteenth daughter, Vanja was considered such bad luck that her mother made a deal with Death and Fortune to secure a better future for her family. Then here is Vanja, years later, a cunning and intelligent woman who has certainly turned that luck around.
