The description was enough to pull me into the first read excerpt, and the first few chapters definitely kept me interested. The writing and interspersed rhymes set a background of good creepiness. Combined with the real life details, it's a very enthralling atmosphere, and dreamlike - or perhaps more nightmarish. The author draws you into Lauren's mind, and the unsure feeling of what is real and what might just be a dream. I do feel a bit ambivalent towards her husband already, but perhaps he'll redeem himself later in the story. A new mother's emotions were well written and added to the overall foreshadowing, I think. I hadn't read anything by this author before, and it's always great to find a new to me author to enjoy!
