This was such a good book. It had all the right factors for a psychological thriller. It was dark, it was creepy, it had a untrustworthy main character, and a fairy tale. Sold.
I really felt for Lauren it is hard as a first time mom to survive the days, and then the nights on top of it with little to no help. From experience I can tell you, it can take a toll, especially the sleepless nights. It's sad that her mental health really suffered, but I couldn't tell that. Not really. It only appeared so from the sidelines of what other people saw. So is Lauren going crazy, or not?
And then the added fairy tale element. It made everything so much weirder and worse, and dark. I like that element it really played well in this story. And so different from the usual, oh she just went crazy books.
The little downside to this book wasI kind of disliked Harper's overachieving personality. I couldn't believe that she would disobey her superior for no reason, other than her own. The connecting reason being her daughter just didn't fully do it for me. Also, trying to get a solution for every case, no matter the cost, no matter the risk. It just seemed too over the top for a detective who's supposed to be level headed.
Overall a recommended read for readers who like thrillers or some fantasy/fairy tales.
