Right out of the gate, this book was action packed and kept me interested. The characters were well developed, especially the main character, Lauren Tranter and detective Jo Harper, who becomes involved after hearing a 911 call from Lauren. Is Lauren crazy? Is Jo the only one who believes her?

I read this book in just 3 settings. I couldn't put it down and was very satisfied with the plot pacing. There was a clunky moment at the end, but it passed quickly, so I didn't mind it at all. I also liked that it was realistic, yet woven with folk and fairy tale quotes and excerpts. So it's a psychological thriller with some magical realism, which can sometimes be hard for a writer to pull off. Melanie Golding did a great job and I was entertained throughout.

I was delighted to read this and can't wait for the movie adaptation. I would definitely read another book by this author!
