There is a good grasp of a mother's exhaustion during a difficult birth of twins and her fear and ambivalence of her ability to care for them shortly after being left alone with them for the first time. Has new mother Lauren's exhaustion conjured up a roommate and another set of twins? Has she confronted a hallucination when an evil ditty is emitted from within the curtained off section of her post-partum hospital room? This story has me hooked from the beginning and it's creepiness can't be denied. A little Hansel and Gretel mixed with a little Rumpelstiltskin and a massive dose of new mother fears and exhaustion are proving this is the story to read on a dark, perhaps stormy night. Can't wait to finish the rest.
