I loved the description of this book and I also love debut novels so I was excited to read it. Who hasn't dreamed of meeting an author you admire? And to actually have an ongoing friendship? It sounds like a dream come true! Or does it?
I got worried in the beginning because the book was so slow and it felt like nothing was happening. Tatum’s story was compelling, but then it went on so long that my interest started to wane. The timelines were a little confusing at first. I’m not sure when I realized that I was so immersed in the story I was racing through the pages to find out what happened. I wondered for a minute if Mateo was abusive or just an oblivious narcissist and if Tatum was an unreliable narrator. If you’re looking for a book with hypnotic writing, complicated characters, and a mesmerizing story, read this one! 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
