Like Happiness is an interesting story about a toxic relationship between a woman named Tatum Vega and a famous author named M. Domínguez. It is told in a dual narrative alternating between her present day and a letter from Tatum to Domínguez. Throughout the story, Tatum reexamines the relationship that dominated so much of her early adulthood. Along the way, questions arise, like what did happen between them, and why she still struggles with the marks that the relationship left on her. After the author is accused of assault she starts to look back at her relationship with him through different eyes. She wonders if maybe he had been grooming her all along or maybe he was scamming her the whole time. I found the story engrossing and really enjoyed the author's writing style. The characters were layered and the setting was spot on. This is a great story.
