Like Happiness captivated me from the moment I saw the cover. The juxtaposition between the buildings of New York and the lush fruit of Chile is perfect for this story. Tatum Vega is contacted by an American reporter to speak about her relationship with a legendary writer, M. Dominguez. This a complex tale told through alternating perspectives, both told by Vega, but one is a letter/ inner dialogue toward Dominguez, re-hashing their relationship. As the perspective alternates, the contrast from the cover continues to sharpen.

A word I heard used to describe what Vega endured was "micro-agression" and I think that fits perfectly. Maybe it doesn't seem like a big deal and it's easy to let go, but these small things stack up and can seriously affect a person's well-being. I felt the stress and anxiety building in the perspective where she is going over the relationship between her and Dominguez. It is really a power struggle fraught with tension and it is made more apparent by the state of her life now.

I enjoyed Villarreal-Moura's writing throughout and look forward to more by her.
