Like Happiness was told in such a unique way and deep dives into the complexities of a relationship that is multilayered, touching on uneven power dynamics, cultural and sexual identity, and more.

It tells the story of Tatum's relationship with M. Dominguez, a writer 8 years her senior, over the course of a decade. The story is primarily told through a communication from the Tatum to M. Dominguez after they've been estranged for years--she is telling her side of the story to the man that consumed so many years of her life so that she can process it herself. Interspersed through her telling their story is the present day in which a journalist contacts Tatum saying a woman has come forward accusing M. Dominguez of abuse and he's investigating by contacting other women who were associated with him.

Like Happiness details a complex relationship that has many nuances and layers. I felt it was done extremely well, and loved the choice of setting the perspective as Tatum's own recount of their relationship.
