I was absolutely expecting this to be a self-help book just based on the cover and title. I was super surprised to start reading the first look and discover that it wasn't that kind of book at all. The first chapter unnerved me. It was unclear who was being addressed with that second person POV, and there was a lot of exposition. I wasn't sure I was going to like where the book was headed, but then the next chapter hit, and I was immediately pulled in. I can absolutely see this book being a big hit in book clubs, and I'd love to read more to see how both timelines play out in Chile and New York.

I think the cover is pretty, but definitely didn't indicate to me that this was going to be a literary fiction book.
