I thought this book was going to be an engrossing page-turner, and I wasn’t wrong! Gabe, Sasha, Catherine, and Elyse are all high school kids with some pretty dark troubles. The book follows each of them, changing perspective chapter by chapter, until all of their lives converge.

I read the first few pages of this book, and knew that it was one that I’d want to blow a whole day reading straight through. I didn’t exactly get to read it that way (it took me 5 days of here and there reading), and I really wish I could have. The intensity and earnestness of these kids is completely engrossing, and I think that there is something in at least one of them that most readers will be able to identify with, harkening back to our own high school days (for those of us beyond that time).

Aside from being a fast, easy read, there are some twists that I honestly never saw coming. I felt dumb for NOT seeing them coming, but I guess that’s what really makes a twist a good one. The character development was great, and the way the story wrapped up at the end was satisfying in a way that did not cheapen the strife and turmoil of the rest of the story. I’d highly recommend this book to anyone who just wants to get away for a little while, because reading it is cruise control to their tortured teenage world.
