I've been going through the old first look previews in order to rack up more points. I download them to the computer, then I read them as I get to them on the nook, taking notes to come back to writing this later. The following were my notes as I read the excerpt:
-Strong descriptions
-The author sets the scenes very well.
-Would probably be appealing to 6th-7th graders, would be too young/babyish for the 9th graders recommended at the start of the book.
-The author pays attention to detail but the characters and problems are just way too overly simplistic.
-This definitely would not be a book that I would be interested in purchasing.
-It's too young for my oldest and it's way too old for my youngest. This has a very narrow middle grade market and it's nothing that anyone in my house would be interested in.
That being said, if the author ever attempted some kind of adult writing, I'd be interested in checking it out.
