Lies You Never Told Me explores the lives of two teenagers, both trapped in circumstances that quickly spiral out of their control. Gabe and Elyse each find themselves in toxic relationships, with the possibilities for a happy future dwindling with each passing day. As the teenagers try to find ways to cope with their situations, will the risk be worth all that they may gain?

The stories of Elyse and Gabe exist in different time periods and the pair are complete strangers. Although the timelines do not intersect until the book is almost concluded, the author did a good job of drawing similarities between the situations of the two teenagers. This common ground gave the separate stories cohesion. With many real life situations that are very similar to the ones that Elyse and Gabe face, teenagers may be able to find relevance in their stories. Lies You Never Told Me is the type of cautionary tale that parents may be able to use as a talking point with their teens. Although some of the situations contained within the book were a little overblown, the author did a good job of bringing the two stories together in a way that was surprising. I would recommend Lies You Never Told Me to readers who enjoy YA thrillers and I look forward to reading more by the author in the future.
