The descriptions in this book are killer, and that's even before we get to Gabe's controlling girlfriend, Sasha. There are two alternating storylines // Gabe in Austin, with a couple of close friends and the previously mentioned Sasha - I'm hoping the narrative continues to write her in this volatile but interesting way; she's human even if she's terrifying and manipulative - and Elyse, who is getting the chance to be seen as the lead in Romeo and Juliet and who has a brilliant best friend named Brynn, and I'm just scared for her, too! Elyse has a tough home life and I'm getting vibes that I'm going to be super angry at the drama teacher. I don't think I've been invested in a whole cast of teen characters like this in a long time, especially in a thriller-ish setting. There's a good swirl of mystery going on here (What will Sasha do? Is Mr. Hunter (the drama teacher) gonna be a creep to Elyse? How are these two stories going to connect to each other??) And I'm hooked.

The cover is kinda boring, in my opinion, so I'm really glad I got the chance to read the first few chapters (don't judge a book by its cover lol). The characters are written so, so well, and I'm really glad someone like Brynn exists in a teen novel. There's no girl-on-girl hate in Elyse's storyline! "In came this girl in a pink sequined skirt and a T-shirt with a giant sloth face printed in the middle, like a fairy godmother in a Wes Anderson movie, and instead of ignoring me like three other girls had done, she gave me a hug before she even asked my name." That's just an amazing description #protectBrynn2k18. I'll definitely be picking this book up!
