Some issues but an overall entertaining read

Initially assumed dead after disappearing with his father and being missing for 10 years, 19 year old Lucas Blackthorn reemerges. Maya Stark, a speech therapist dealing with abandonment issues, is assigned to him. She struggles to get him to open up in order to find out what happened to him.

I've never read any of Mindy Mejia's works before so this one was a pleasant surprise for me. I enjoyed the plot and the characters, though they were some rather predictable character traits and plot points. I also found myself disliking the plot twist. It just seemed to be executed rather poorly and definitely could have been done better. It's a mostly entertaining work despite that, it just has a few setbacks.
