Leave No Trace was a quick, enjoyable read. This story had me hooked from the beginning. After 10 years missing in the Boundary Waters with his father, Lucas Blackthorn shows up breaking into in a wilderness supply store. He doesn’t speak and is violent and ends up at a psychiatric facility. Maya Stark, a speech therapist, is assigned to work with him. The author does an excellent job writing about Maya’s past and how it effects her decisions and relationship with Lucas.
The combination of the topics of wilderness survival, mental health, and forming relationships made this a compelling story. Maya’s internal conflict between right and wrong and sanity and insanity made for an interesting plot.
