Once upon a time, a father and son wandered into the Minnesota wilderness, only to end up disappearing, presumed dead, after supposedly being attacked by a bear at their campsite. However, a decade later, the son is discovered at a local shop, having caused a violent altercation, and is sent to a psychiatric facility. Now a young man, Lucas Blackthorn is uncommunicative and considered dangerous. It isn't until Maya Stark, an assistant language therapist, shows up that he makes any sign of comprehension. Realizing Maya may be the only one to get answers from Lucas, she is assigned Lucas as a patient, and soon finds herself immersed in the Blackthorn mystery.

Leave No Trace is the type of book one finds difficult to explain due to a blatant fear of spoiling any and all plot points. Mejia has weaved together a thrilling story full of twists and turns, and I can honestly say I never saw any of them coming. Maya and Lucas were some of the most interesting and compelling characters I have ever read, and I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two. While I will admit to there being a few slow chapters toward the beginning of the novel, I found this book to be thoroughly engrossing.

Fans of suspense and mysteries will find Mejia's newest novel to be exciting, refreshing, and completely un-put-downable.
