I knew after reading the first look of this book that it would be a good one! Mindy Mejia immediately draws you into the story of Maya, a speech therapist working at the institution where she was once a patient, and Lucas, who has suddenly appeared after being lost in the Boundary Waters for 10 years. Both Maya and Lucas have been damaged by the loss of their mothers when they were young. Maya forms a strong bond with Lucas, crossing some professional boundaries. Mejia writes an engaging story with strong characters. The setting of the story in the Boundary Waters is stunning. The descriptions of the wilderness are vivid and contribute greatly to the emotional mood of the story. Readers new to Mejia’s work will be excited to read this one!
