Powerful and absorbing from the jump. In reading the introduction you get a feeling that remains throughout the entirety of the book, the sense that the author has developed these concepts so completely he has been able to identify perfect examples, anecdotes, and historical references that add clarity throughout.

The book does an excellent job in delineating the learning process into separate pieces. The necessary conditions for optimal learning, creativity and breaking through plateaus in order to improve, and what separates those who seek mastery; a philosophy that must be lived by, achievement that must be earned. My favorite example is one the author shares about the alphabet. Most of us feel we have mastery over it, but we find having only memorized it forward that we trip up if we are asked to recite it backwards. Like an athlete learning drills with their dominant and opposite limbs, a desire for mastery requires you to learn something from front to back AND back to front and must be earned.

In summary, a highly recommended book for any level in any number of disciplines. The highly illustrative writing would lend itself to a number of mediums. Perhaps we can expect a video companion someday.
