Thank you to BookishFirst and Tor/Forge Books for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Lavender House in exchange for my honest review.

This book is being marketed as Knives Out but with queer representation, and I have to say that is spot on. I don't typically gravitate towards books that are set this many years in the past (1952), but in this case it made complete sense for this story to be told during that time.

One thing I was not expecting was the violent instances of homophobia present in the book. It was absolutely heartbreaking to read about and I cannot imagine having to live through it. I commend the author for doing such a fantastic job with those particular moments.

As for the mystery itself, every time I thought I had it figured out, I was way off base. I loved that there were actually a couple mysteries within the big mystery, and I found the final conclusion extremely satisfying. I will absolutely be reading another book by this author in the future!
