Okay, if you're going to market something as Knives Out with a queer historical twist, how can I not be intrigued? I absolutely loved Knives Out, so this was definitely a book that I had to read.

First, let's talk about this cover. The cover was absolutely gorgeous. Obviously, you need lavender to represent Lavender House, but I also loved how it evoked this sense of mystery because of the darkness. Absolute perfection.

Onto the book itself. I honestly can't remember a book I've read about the soap industry or even using soap as a focal point. So bonus points for novelty. And I love the lines: When your existence is a crime, everything you do is criminal, and the gates of Lavender House can’t lock out the real world forever. Running a soap empire can be a dirty business.

I loved the character development here, especially with the mystery. It was definitely unpredictable and a worthwhile read.
