Intriguing mystery, with an Agatha Christie, closed-room flavour, but unique.
Set in San Francisco, Lavender House starts like a gritty crime novel. There's the rough, tough, 32-year-old ex-inspector, Evander Mills, who intervenes in a domestic row at a bar, mid-afternoon.
The author's voice is minimalist, yet really gets into his characters' heads. I particularly liked this, "I don’t like that smile. Reminds me too much of the
mirror."
