The decade is the 1950s, and Evander Mills just lost his job as a police inspector--he was discovered in the bathroom of Black Cat, a queer bar, doing "things men do in the bathroom of the Black Cat." Now, a wealthy woman is hiring him as a private investigator, desperate to find out how her wife died.
The writing evokes the classic film noir, oldie style, while still being easy to read. The story is compelling, drawing the reader in. Some of the storyline so far seem sa bit overwrought, but I don't know much about the 1950s so maybe its more accurate than I think.
