As an avid true crime fan, there are so many stories I see told over and over- the night stalker, the BTK killer, Son of Sam. I am a little embarrassed to admit I have never ever heard of the "Last Call Killer" and this story was totally new to me, but I was hooked right from the start.

Part of what makes this book so unique was the focus on the victims. For the first two thirds or so of the book, long chapters are devoted to exploring the background of each victim as a person. It is rare for an author to deviate from focusing on the crime to focusing on the people, and I feel this choice is what made the book so intriguing.

The depth of Elon Green's research is clear--the book reads like fiction, with detailed descriptions of settings, people's internal thoughts, and reactions, but is meticulously cited and explained. The story told was an important one, and Green thoughtfully wove in the details of the crimes with the social background of the 1980s/1990s to capture the full story of the Last Call Killer. I definitely recommend this book!
