The book starts out with the horrifying discovery of a unnamed man's body, who is quickly identified as a well-to-do gay man from Philadelphia. After traveling to New York City for a fundraiser, the man ultimately disappeared after visiting a local bar called the Townhouse.

The mystery is readily apparent as the author artfully follow the narrative of the man's life. It's clear that this man is but one of several victims, all of whom with ties to the bar. In telling this story, thematic discussions about the queer history of AIDS in the 80's and 90's is told in an objective, often telling, way.

The jacket cover does not do the story justice, but is reminiscent of many modern true crime books. I found the writing was similar in style to Michelle MacNamara's whose writing is also lauded nationwide. I am anxious (and also fearful!) to read more!
