I was interested at first since the front cover said "A true story of love lust and murder in queer new york" -- I generally love anything queer. However, this focuses rather a lot more on the murder than I was expecting. The tone was dry and dull despite the subject, and I couldn't get into it at all. If I wanted matter-of-fact accounting of murders, I'd read the news.
