This book is really ambitious, because it is interweaving the story of one dead person (in this excerpt) with a lot of information about the officer(s) investigating it, where the decedent worked, his apartment, how he was found, how they identified him, and more. It is basically impossible to follow all of the threads being laid in this beginning chapter because of how every paragraph is about a different subject.
