This was an interesting set of stories about China. At first I thought the book was about one main story and didn't realize it was several. I really felt this book gave you a glimpse of what life in China was like especially if you were Chinese American. It really described the differences between the two countries and exposed their weaknesses as well as their strengths. Though I am not too familiar with Chinese government I learned some new things and am grateful for the author writing such an honest, open view through her stories. Some of the stories like the one about the son who never returned to China and just left his parents behind saddened me. I couldn't understand why someone wouldn't return to their native land or teach their American spouse about where they grew up. It really made me think and was such a heart-wrenching story. I recommend this book to anyone who might want a small glimpse into Chinese culture or history. Albeit fiction, this still seemed like a resource.
