This book is about life in China, being an individual amongst the masses. Everyone the same, everyone vastly different. I found it striking how the Lulu, the golden child is the one who ended up being a disappointment in the end by daring to step outside societal expectations,while the her brother exceeded expectations by keeping his head down.
