A super-interesting perspective on modern China

Modern China is fascinating to me - it's so large, with so much history, such a wide diversity of people and experiences. Yet somehow that enormous land mass is governed by one central ruling party, who achieves that with an often iron fist. I'm afraid I often fall into the trap of reading historical fiction about China, but this narrative about modern-day China, dissidents, party fealty, online culture, and more seems really interesting!
