Considering the way China is portrayed by (western) media, Te-Ping Chen's debut collection of short stories, Land of Big Numbers, presents a refreshingly nuanced view of life in the most populated country in the world. I found the first short story to be quietly introspective, and I look forward to reading the other stories in the collection.
