This book has very Gothic, atmospheric vibes and stubborn, compassionate characters. It also features dark magic, light magic, Gods, and curses. The typical coming-of-age story is turned completely on its head when the protagonist is forced to give up critical parts of herself to save the ones she loves. The writing is strong, and the back and forth between the characters is really fun to read.
I think most YA fantasy readers could appreciate the darker twist that Lakesedge brings to the table. Throw in some bargains with the God of Death, and what's not to like?
