This is a unique and rich fantasy romance about a young girl discovering the secrets of a boy living at a mysterious manor on the lake and trying to save her brother at the same time.
I really enjoyed seeing the characters open up to one another and find common ground and comfort in each other. You can’t help but root for violet to find a way to defeat the lord under and the relationship between her and Rowan showed the kindness they both held for eachother.
The side characters even had a place in my heart and the world building was so stunning and haunting. I love books about protagonists having to uncover generational secrets and trauma in old spooky houses and the atmosphere in this book was really beautiful. I didn’t have many negatives to note besides just not agreeing with some of violets choices but i’m willing to see even more of the growth of not only the characters but the author herself as well in the next installment of the series.
