There were parts of this book that I really loved (Rowan and the fact that the heroine is demisexual, which should be talked about more!) and there were parts that I wasn't the biggest fan of. So I'm not sure where I land with this book. I love Gothic literature and this book wasn't really gothic, it was spooky for sure, but in calling it Gothic I expected very specific things. I felt like atmospheric might be a better description. The Gothic things just seemed like set dressing or something to overcome really quickly and we just moved right along. It was a fast read and I would recommend it during spooky season because book 2 is coming out of you want something ~creepy~ but not totally scary. The cover is gorgeous and was part of the reason I picked it up in the first place. I've had my eye on this book since it came in Owlcrate and I'm ultimately glad I read it.
