I started Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone hoping for a thrilling gothic fantasy-romance combination story. It definitely delivered on those three characteristics! Right off the bat, the setting and background almost feel like a Tim Burton claymation movie. Between that, the spectaularly singular "haunted" mansion, and the goosebump-inducing dark magic elements and creatures, I was thoroughly please with this book's 'spooky vibes'. I'm ready for Halloween now, thanks!

The fantasy elements were dark like I mentioned, but not so overly-horrifying that they were scary if that makes sense. I'm no lover of horror movies so if you're worried about that just know it doesn't lean into that too much. The romance was cute and engaging, I'm falling in love with Rowan myself! Sometimes the sode characters felt one dimensional, but it wasn't anything that held the book back.
