My favorite thing about this book is the fact it's pretty. The cover is absolutely gorgeous (I got it with my points for the cover alone) but that's not quite what I'm talking about. There's beautiful chapter header art and I found the prose was pretty. There's a lot of great descriptions that pulled me into the book. It has nice spooky vibes and reading it felt like fall. Very... atmospheric.

The magic was fun and somewhat interesting, especially in the later parts of the book.

I found Violeta (the main character) irritating, I think I would have enjoyed the book more if it had been from someone else's point of view (I found Rowan and Arien vastly more interesting) and maybe even more so if she'd been left at home. I didn't care for the romance arc either.

I've seen this mentioned as an LGBTQIA+ book but I don't think the rep was great, it was mostly in the background. It wasn't bad, I just wish there's have been more.
