Lakesedge is the first in a duopoly by Lyndall Clipstone. It is a young adult fantasy with gothic vibes, romance and some paranormal/horror. It fits into many genres that I love. This book follows our main character Violeta Graceling and takes place at Lakesedge estate, a mansion that is on a lake. When Rowan threatens to take away her brother she goes to Lakeedge to save him. This book was really atmospheric, it’s a great halloween read. I loved the relationships of the characters and the LGBT+ rep. I was pleasantly surprised to see demisexual rep, and there’s other LGBT+ characters. The writing could have been better, there’s a lot of repetition and info dumping instead of descriptively explaining something. The main character is irritating at times and gave me second hand embarrassment. This felt a bit like a beauty and the beast retelling.
