Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone, turned out to be quite a surprise. The author is one of those people who comes up wonderfully descriptive sentences and yet adds an atmospheric touch to her story.

Most of the time, if I don't care about a character, perhaps feeling an extreme dislike for them, I end up not continuing the story. In this book, all the main characters, while certainly different from each other in many ways, are people I've come to like--with the exception of Violeta's adopted mother and Lord Under. Two of the characters: Viloeta and Rowan, have suffered because of the choices they made when they were younger--which certainly made me feel sorry for them. The characterization was excellent in this book.

While the story isn't one of my absolute favorites, because of the whole corrupted land and people plot, I really think it does have the potential to do well. Three stars.
